Tally chose to wear a mask because she was an ugly. Tally could not be seen in New Pretty Town or she would be arrested. Tally was spying on her best friend Peris, because he used to be an ugly and now he is a pretty.

Masks have been used for thousands and thousands of years in cultures around the world. Early masks were made from local materials. They were harder to find or more precious materials would probably have been used to embellish more important masks in ancient times, as they are now.
